Grande Prairie & Area extends over 150,000 square kilometres from Grande Cache in the south, west to the BC border, east to Fox Creek and north to Manning and Red Earth Creek.
The area serves 130,000 residents and many more from eastern BC, northern Alberta and the Northwest Territories.
The Queen Elizabeth II Hospital in Grande Prairie is the centre of the area and a referral centre for our own communities, as well as our northern neighbours. The hospital has the most northern MRI facility in Canada and an extensive variety of secondary services, including a neonatal intensive care unit and a comprehensive diabetes wellness program.
When asked what they like most about their jobs, many staff said they value the work environment that allows them to spend more time on personalized patient care and that has a commitment to staff development and education.
Our Communities
The City of Grande Prairie is the largest urban centre in Grande Prairie & Area. Grande Prairie has all the features of a big city with a small town feel. Accommodation is reasonably priced, the city is safe and all the services, amenities and recreation opportunities of a large centre can be found close by.
Going south, Grande Cache is situated in the dramatic and breathtaking Rocky Mountains. To the north, our communities are nestled throughout some of Alberta's richest agricultural lands, near stunning river valleys and among our vast and rugged boreal forest lands.
Our Facilities
Our facilities are located in the communities of Beaverlodge, Fairview, Fox Creek, Gift Lake, Grande Cache, Grande Prairie, Grimshaw, High Prairie, Hythe, Kinuso, Manning, McLennan, Peace River, Spirit River, Valleyview and Worsley. The community of Worsley is served by two nurse practitioners.
