Geographically, Fort McMurray & Area has the largest area in Alberta Health Services. Covering the entire northern section of the province to the Northwest Territories border, and from Fort McMurray to the east and High Level to the west, we are a diverse blend of historic, cultural and economic backgrounds. We are also a unique ecological region made up of some of the largest and richest agricultural, forestry, oil and gas, and wildlife reserves in the province. Our communities continue to grow and prosper through these resources, including major exploration, construction and development projects throughout the area.

Fort McMurray & Area provides a broad spectrum of community-based and acute care health services to a growing population with increasingly diverse health needs. The largest health centre is located in Fort McMurray which is equipped with 24-hour emergency care, an intensive care unit, full surgical services, a radiology unit and a medical laboratory. It currently operates 88 acute care beds, 12 bassinets, 30 long-term care beds and 1 respite bed. The western side of the region is serviced by two hospitals in High Level and Fort Vermilion, health centres in Rainbow Lake, Paddle Prairie and LaCrete, where a beautiful long-term care centre in is also located. The new 40-bed Northwest Health Centre in High Level has state-of-the-art equipment and facilities.
