Responsibilities/Duties:

Reporting to the Manager/Supervisor, the incumbent is a member of the (FAP)Forensic Adolescent Program interdisciplinary team and provides forensic mental health services according to the professional standards of practice and the codes of conduct of Alberta Health Services and the College Registered Psychiatric Nurses Of Alberta /College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta; carries out professional duties of assessment, consultation, education, treatment and discharge planning. Completes psychosocial assessments, conducts interviews with patients, families, and other collateral contacts in order to develop and maintain a continuity of care philosophy in the assessment and provision of clinical services. Undertakes independent clinical assessment, including assessment of current mental functioning, community placement needs, treatment follow up needs, financial, housing and social functioning needs of Adolescent population. Consults with members of the interdisciplinary team and provides written reports containing treatment recommendations to referring parties. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team providing assessments on an outpatient basis, the y nurse identifies the client’s immediate needs. Completes documentation and maintains client files in keeping with administrative and Health Information Act standards.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from a recognized Registered Psychiatric Nurses/Registered Nurses program and is registered to practice in Alberta with a baccalaureate degree in Mental health nursing preferred.
  • At least Three years Psychiatric Community Nursing experience with a solid knowledge working with offender population and knowledge of the corrections/justice systems.
  • Interpersonal communication skills, solid interviewing skills and report writing skills are a must.
