Effective April 1, 2010 $34.58 - $45.94
The Mental Health Therapist works as part of a multidisciplinary team and is responsible for providing assessment, diagnosis, treatment, clinical consultation, case management, education and referral services for clients, and their families as appropriate, with mental health issues. Actively participates in community development and mental health promotion activities for the purpose of enhancing mental wellness and healthy lifestyles. Assists in providing in-service education for staff and other service providers. Establishes effective liaison with agencies and professionals in both the public and private sectors.
Formal Education:
Master's Psychology or Bachelor Social Work or BSc. Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing (RPN)or Occupational Therapy requiredMaster's Psychology, Master's Social Work, Master's Nursing, Master's Occupational Therapy or Degree in Psychiatric Nursing desiredExperience:
One year direct work with people experiencing mental illness and mental disorders requiredThree years experience with people experiencing mental illness and mental disorders desiredWork experience in rural Mental Health desiredknowledge of play therapy is desiredLicense(s), Certificate(s), Professional Membership(s):
Registration in appropriate professional association in the province of Alberta (eligibility for registration may be considered)Non-violent crisis intervention certificationSuicide assessment training and DSM-IV trainingKnowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:
Knowledge and skills in computer and software programsAble to build a rapport and strong professional relationships with Mental Health professionalsEffective interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) Flexible, self-motivated and capable of working independently as well as a part of a multidisciplinary consultation teamPhysical Effort/Strength Required:
Frequent physical demands include sitting, walking, carrying equipment and supplies, and driving as required
- Vehicle Required - Required to provide a vehicle for business use; along with acceptable driver's abstract and proof of business insurance
- Driver's License Required
